📍Children's Museum of La Crosse

Grand Opening of Fire Station #4 1/2

The Children’s Museum of La Crosse is thrilled to announce the grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration for its newest exhibit, La Crosse Fire Station #4 ½ – The ABC’s of HVAC, on June 11th, starting at 11:00am. This exciting, hands-on exhibit blends the fun and heroism of firefighting with an engaging introduction to the science of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the Museum, located at 207 5th Avenue South in downtown La Crosse. Families, community members, and media are invited to attend the event, explore the new exhibit, and enjoy badge sticker and photo sessions with the fire fighters by Lemonade Photo. The Museum extends its deepest gratitude to the sponsors and donors, for supporting the mission and vision and whose generous support made this exhibit possible: TRANE, Coleman Custom Homes, Balduzzi Lumber Co., Builder’s Flooring, Wisconsin Building Supply, Hallman Lindsay Home Maintenance Experts, La Crosse Fire Dept., Meridian Marketing, Villand & Son Painters, and Trane STEAM Team, The La Crosse Fire Department, and The Museum team. Exhibit Highlights: A kid-sized fire station complete with a fire truck, bunk room, upper deck with slide, locker room with gear, and interactive wall connecting the ABC’s of HVAC. Interactive HVAC-themed wall that explains airflow, energy use, and system mechanics in an age-appropriate way with the use of lights, pressure, air flow, and silly-fun!

📍Weigent Park

Weekly Wednesday Ride

Plan on a W night ride at 5:30 PM, starting from near Weigent Park, every Wednesday night for the rest of the summer. Details will be posted in the group discussion area, including whether the ride will be cancelled due to weather. Current expectation is that we will cross the La Crescent bike bridge and pick up riders at the west end of the bridge. At least for a while, we’ll continue to check behind the Kwik Trip. However, a suggestion was made last week to relocate that spot to the bike bridge, where there is a parking lot for anyone driving to meet us. As I stated with the first posts in this group for 2025, it seems this should be (ie, continue to be) a “no drop” group with a goal of a pace no faster than the 14-16 mph range – it’s far from a racing pace, but it’s also not a ride home from the ice cream shop. If you’re not a regular rider of this group and would like to try it out, but you’re concerned about keeping up, please talk to me or someone else who seems acquainted with the procedure at the start. At the very least, we will make sure you don’t end up dropped and riding alone. I’ve essentially volunteered to try to coordinate this because I enjoy and value these rides, but if anyone ever wants to propose or post a different route, that should also be fine, as long as we coordinate things. It should always be possible to post additional cycling-related items relevant to this group, such as requests for people to join a ride at a different time or location, for example. I f the last couple of years are indicators, we may extend a couple of more weeks past the noted end date of 10 Sep, but rides after that are likely to start earlier as the sunsets creep earlier at an accelerating pace.
