Ethics and AI for Beginners
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is shaping our daily lives. AI Technology is powering algorithms that drive our internet searches and media consumption, it’s assisting doctors record clinical notes and make diagnoses, it’s influencing hiring decisions, and shaping the day-to-day workflows of many employees. With any technology with such far reaching impact comes important concerns and questions. In this workshop, we’ll explore concerning aspects of AI through an ethical framework and address questions such as: How can AI be designed and used to promote human well-being? How can we prevent AI from causing harm, whether intentional or accidental? How does AI affect human decision-making and freedom of choice? How do we ensure AI systems are fair and equitable across different communities? Through short examples, interactive discussion, and real-world cases, participants will learn to recognize ethical challenges in AI technologies and think critically about how society can respond. The workshop will not require any technical background—just curiosity and a willingness to explore the promises and perils of AI.
